The characters are indeed poor. They have to stay at Chalky's because that is where they live at the trailer park. Their parents don't want them to get too far away because they are worried thy will get lost or hurt so they make them stay on the grounds.

ReplyDeleteSara, I think the reason why Leon left is because of the fire accident and he was a suspect of the burning so to no longer cause trouble, either he left on his own or the mother of the main character forced him to leave.

ReplyDeleteMs Whit-Dawg, I think that his mother is someone who only cares for herself. In the story, it said that he dosent even know who his mom is. That basically tells me they do not talk or help each other out. It makes me feel bad for the main character.

ReplyDeleteIndeed that there are many random things happened (the fire, T-boy turning rotton, etc.) that are completely odd that throws the story off balance (flashbacks, current matters, etc.) which did puzzle us on what excactly happen.

I actually loved this story. Allthough at times it was a bit confusing, in the in i think i got it. The girl was in pain about her brother leaving because they were soo close and she was in pain about her dad leaving, her mom calling her the "damned child of her father". And i think she was just in pain about life. But she knew she could get through it and that eventually everything would be okay. "Everything will be okay in the end, and if its not okay then its not the end."

ReplyDeleteYes, Leon is the narrator's older brother. The parents are definitely seperated. The story just states that the father left. Because it is worded in this way I'm not even sure if the parents were even married. I had to read the end twice to make sure I understood it. The story definitely was a little on the confusing side.
Does anyone think they understand what happened to Leon?
this story was kind of confusing. the parts i understood i liked. it was a pretty good story but too many things were going on at once. I think it's sad how her brother left her like that though i can't imagine what she must have felt like.

ReplyDeleteIn this story the girl and her brother, reminds me of how me and my brothers relationship used to be. We used to be insepreable and always made up games and always spent time together. And now that we are both growing up we are going our own seperate ways. And now that he is an adult im scared i will loose him. just like she was scared shed loose leon. I felt the same way at first, he doesnt love me, he probably never thinks of me, will he ever come back? But now ive gotten over him for many reasons. So i understand where she is coming from!

ReplyDeleteI think Leon was probably arrested (obviously) and after a week he ran away? I'm not sure. Maybe the narrarator was sleeping, and Leon got in a fight with his mom, and eventually just got sotired of it he left?

Chris- Just because someone is upset doesnt mean they will kill themselves. Thats not the case at all. There would have to be more than that. But im also disagreeing with you because in the story it never said anything about her being so upset she got depressed. And its usually not upset people who kill themselves its depressed people. I know how that goes, and i know what it takes to have someone want to harm themselves and personally, i just dont think she would. Unless things changed in a drastic way.

ReplyDeletemiranda- right, i tottaly agree. But just how i precieved the story, she didnt seem too over the top stressed, or way too upset. Im just saying having your brother move away usually doesnt drive people to kill themselves unless like they had other issues too. And it sounded like she was older and im sure she has dealt with stress before and she obviosly hasnt killed herself and people who have issues with depression or overly stressed out USUALLY have signs of it since they were younger but thats not always true in ALL cases. Just how i see her, i dont believe she will kill herself, i can usually read people really good too! Or in this case characters. haha
ReplyDeletelauren- there are other factors in her life that might make her want to kill herself. she is poor and has a broken leg!and her brother and father are gone that's alot for a kid to take on you never know what will happen everyone has different breaking points.
ReplyDeleteMiranda- Yep you are right. But no-one can really know. All we know is what the story told us. So im just predicting from what the story had said. Im just basing all of this in my own experience. And thats all we really can do. Nobody truely understands everone so neither of us can really say how she felt or how she was feeling. I'll say it again im just saying i dont think she will kill herself. But how you feel when you get upset is different from how i feel when im upset. And my experiences are wayyy different from yours. I just dont see how people could like judge unless theyve been in that situation. So therefore our predictions will be different.

ReplyDeleteI didnt think this story was confusing at all :p I think that Leon was smart to run away! I wouldnt want to live in the trailor park and be held from my dreams. I think that the fire incident and being blamed was just an excuse for him to be able to leave and pursue his life farther then where he would get if he stayed with his family. I think he just wanted to be happy and i would of done the same. :)

ReplyDeleteI agree with Lauren about the whole killing yourself just because your sad thing. Most people dont want to die and they try to work trough it. If i were the main character i would try to look at the bright side of things, after i got through the pain. Leon could be happy now! He never was in there home. I would try to think positive and hope that he was safe and content.

ReplyDeleteI sorta like this story. it was easy to keep focused on it but it was still confusing to me. it kinda jumps from her and her mom to her brother to her friends and it jumps a lot. i still kind of liked this story.
ReplyDeleteThis story was easy for me to picture in my head and is atomic blue the color of the marker or the name of the brand or is it an atomic blowing up marker? haha just kidding about it blowing up. but still is it the color. it needs more descriptions about the character to me than it does her brother Leon. Then again it needs to have both descriptions of each of them actually.
